Learning to Accept Yourself

One of the hardest things I’ve had to conquer is learning to accept myself. It’ll probably be one of the hardest things any of us do.

I believe that before we can truly love ourselves, we have to come to accept ourselves. Not in a way, well this is what it is kind of way, but in a very healthy and loving manner.

As a mother or a wife, we accept our children and partners for their flaws. We love them more for their flaws and how individual it is to them. We love them so much for being that beautiful perfectly imperfect. And as a result, we accept them for them being themselves. We do the same in all of our relationships… except we struggle with this for the relationships we have with ourselves.

Learning to accept ourselves improves our lives.

  • When we practice self-acceptance we love ourselves better unconditionally.
  • Self-acceptance leads to an amazing self-discovery journey.
  • Our self-esteem and confidence will raise naturally.
  • We are able to confidently ask for our needs and desires to be filled.
  • Our self-care routines become more personalized and better suited to our own selves.

We end up feeling better about ourselves and in turn, are happier.

When all these amazing things happen it reflects back into other areas of our lives too.

Life at home gets better. Because we are feeling more comfortable in our skin, it’ll show. This leads to a more relaxed attitude at home. We are able to openly allow others to love us too.

Work-life gets a boost. We have a better understanding of our strengths and our weaknesses and we learn how to work them at the office. We shine a bit brighter because of it.

Self-Acceptance takes consistent practice.

It’s not something that you’re going to wake up one morning and have mastered. And just when you think you have it down, something will probably send you for a twist. That’s okay.

Did you know that everything in this world is constantly changing? Like down to the very individual cells of your body are constantly mutating. So you will always have something new to take on. New thoughts will come out of new experiences. And yup, these will need to be accepted. Roll with it. Use it as an opportunity to learn more about yourself. This is all part of learning to accept yourself.
